What Dice Games Are
A dice game is any game where the result comes from a roll. In online arcade games lobbies you will mostly see three kinds:
- Over/under dice: a single random number, usually from 0 to 100, and you bet on which side of a target it lands.
- Jhandi Munda: the Indian six dice game with symbols instead of numbers.
- Two or three dice games: bets on the total of the dice, such as 7 Up Down or Sic Bo style tables.
The dice rules for each are below. They share one idea: you bet before the roll, and the roll decides everything.
Dice Rules for Each Format
Over/under dice
- Set your stake.
- Move the slider to choose a target number, for example 50.
- Choose roll over or roll under.
- The game shows your win chance and the multiplier for that choice. A wider winning range means a lower multiplier.
- Roll. If the result is on your side of the target, you win stake times the multiplier.
Jhandi Munda
- Six dice, each with six symbols: heart, spade, diamond, club, flag and face (crown).
- Bet on one or more symbols.
- All six dice are rolled together.
- The more dice that show your symbol, the more you win. If your symbol shows on fewer than the minimum the table sets (often none or only one), the bet loses.
Two dice totals (7 Up Down)
- Two dice are rolled and added: totals from 2 to 12.
- Bet on below 7, exactly 7, or above 7.
- Below and above are each more likely and pay less. Exactly 7 is less likely and pays more.
Payout tables differ from one version to the next. The exact multipliers are always shown inside the game.
A Worked Dice Example
Over/under, stake 10 points. You set the target at 75 and choose roll over. Your win chance is about one in four, so the game shows a high multiplier, say about 3.9x for this example.
- Roll 1: 42. Under your target. You lose 10 points.
- Roll 2: 81. Over 75. You win about 39 points back.
- Roll 3: 12. You lose 10 points.
Three rolls, 30 points staked, about 39 returned. Now set the target to roll over 25 instead. You would win about three times in four, with a multiplier near 1.3x. Same game, very different swings. The multiplier is always slightly less than the true odds would pay, and that gap is the house edge.
Is Dice Skill or Chance?
Dice games are pure chance. You choose your risk level, but you cannot influence the roll, and past rolls tell you nothing about the next. Changing the target only trades how often you win against how much you win. Auto roll and doubling strategies do not change the edge.
Common Dice Mistakes
- Setting auto roll with no stop loss.
- Doubling the stake after each loss.
- Picking very low win chances to "recover" a balance.
- Believing a number is due after it has not come up for a while.
- Not reading the payout table for Jhandi Munda or 7 Up Down before betting.
